Eco-Friendly Baby Items to Add to your Registry
There’s so much excitement, anxiety, and joy surrounding the news that there’s a baby on the way. There’s also a lot of, well, stuff. The baby industry is worth over 60 billion dollars so it’s very easy to drown in the sea of baby products that you just have to have. As it can be a very wasteful industry, it’s important to really streamline the necessities and cut out the crap; making a registry is the best way to do that. It gives you some control over the products you’ll be gifted with and avoids the products that you’ll just never use. Here’s my list of registry must-haves that you’ll actually use & love!
Plastic-Free Pacifier
ACC Pick: HEvea
The brand name Hevea is derived from the name of the rubber trees, Hevea Brasiliensis, used to make the Danish company’s plastic-free products, ranging from puppy toys to baby items. Their non-toxic pacifiers are completely plant-based, from the natural rubber teat to the FDA-approved color pigments. Coming in two shapes and 10+ colors, you will have some peace and comfort knowing they are as good for the planet as they are for bubs.
Hevea Round Pacifier | $10.99
Organic Ring Sling
ACC Pick: Wildbird
Though the ring slings can be intimidating at first, once you get the hang of it, you won’t want to carry bubs any other way (hello hands! hello freedom!). These gorgeous carriers from the American company, Wildbird, are constructed from high-quality Belgian Flax— a lightweight and breathable material that is also harvested & manufactured sustainably, while the slings themselves are produced by 40+ independent seamstresses, most of whom are mothers! The different patterns and color combinations using low-impact dyes are prints you’d wear yourself—In fact, I find myself perusing the site often to scope out the different styles.
Wildbird Ring Sling | $69.95
non-toxic mattress
ACC Pick: Avocado Organic Crib Mattress
LA-based brand Avocado has made quite the name for themselves in recent years due to their non-toxic and incredibly comfortable green mattresses. One of the most conscious bed brands on the market, their crib mattress is handmade at their GOTS-certified factory with natural materials such as latex, wool & organic cotton and comes at an affordable price point. Plus, it will last you well through your child’s early years as the dual-sided mattress comes with different levels of firmness to fit your child’s stage of life.
clean babycare
ACC Pick: Earth Mama Baby Care
While we’re on the skin topic, it’s important to also be mindful of the ingredients in the lotions, soaps & diaper creams that bubs will be exposed to on the daily. Though many baby products on the market are moving towards being phthalate-free and earth-conscious, Earth Mama goes the extra mile with their clean ingredients that are derived from hard-working herbs & plants. Their offerings range from calendula-infused baby oils to non-GMO nipple creams for breastfeeding mamas and are trusted by midwives, lactation consultants, and mamas worldwide.
Earth Mama Diaper Balm | From $8.99
Sustainable Nursery Furniture
Acc pick: Babyletto Cribs & Dressers
Not only is Babyletto furniture impeccably designed, but it’s also a clever choice in terms of sustainability. The brand’s contemporary dressers and cribs are made from eco-friendly woods such as New Zealand pine and completed with non-toxic finishes so that when bubs inevitability chews on their crib, they won’t ingest any nasties. The furniture has been crafted with functionality and style in mind since 2010, making Babyletto’s pieces the perfect choice for the modern nursery.
Lolly Convertible Crib | $399
Organic Bedding
ACC Pick: Coyuchi Organic Crib Sheets
Considering how much sleep your baby gets (can’t say the same about the parents), it only makes sense that their sensitive skin gets the most natural treatment possible from cozy, organic bedding. Coyuchi’s crib sheets are completely organic and come in several different finishes, such as smooth sateen and warm flannel, and are printed with strictly non-toxic pigments to ensure your baby is getting the purest sleep possible.
Coyuchi Crinkled Percale Crib Sheet | From $38
Eco-Friendly rocker
ACC Pick: Finn and Emma rocker
Bright, plastic toys are an eye-sore for the home which is why I’ve loved the shift to natural materials and dreamy earth tones when it comes to baby gear. Finn & Emma’s whimsical organic toys, clothing, and playthings are as stylish as they are safe, with their heirloom quality rocker being an absolute must-have for bub’s first few months. Constructed in a fair trade setting from beechwood & cotton, the rocker will be useful for bubs up to 7 months and will look very stylish in your home, all the while.
Walnut Rocker | $299
Baby Safe Playgym
ACC pick: Lovevery Play Gym
Designed with your babies developing brain in mind, this award-winning play gym gives your child an entire year of play in one convenient space. The mat comes complete with teething toys, black and white contrast cards, and color tabs for every stage of your baby’s first year. Organic Lounger
Acc pick: Snuggle Me organic
An absolute must-have in those tiring yet wonderful newborn days is a lounger, which gives your baby a comforting, snuggling sensation while giving you a much-needed break. The Snuggle Me® Lounger is consciously made by Minessota seamstresses and fillers from GOTS-certified organic and hypoallergenic fabrics so that bubs can get the purest nap. Though you’ll love the way the lounging pad hugs your baby’s body, you’ll also appreciate that the minimal & modern design blends seamlessly into your home.
Snuggle Me Organic Lounger | $99.99
Conscious Swaddle Suits
acc pick: ergopouch Cocoon
In the early months, while your baby still has the startle reflex, it’s highly suggested that you keep them swaddled so they (and you) can sleep more soundly. These cocoon swaddles from ergoPouch are up to the job; made from breathable organic cotton and complete with press-studs in the armholes so you can transition to a sleeping bag later on. Plus, the sustainable and ethical Cocoon bags come with the game-changing 2-way zipper for simpler diaper changes.
Cocoon Swaddle Bag | $39.99
Reusable Silicone Bib
Acc pick: Mushie Bib
There are some baby product “innovations” that can be quite ridiculous, in my opinion. A catch-all bib, however, is not one of them. Designed in Sweden, these playful bibs are perfect for catching all the food that inevitably will spill out of your baby’s mouth and can then be reused easily after a simple wipe-down. Made from food-grade silicone and free from BPA and phthalates, Mushie bibs are cute & comfortable for bubs and a helpful way to keep your baby and the surrounding area clean.
Mushie Silicone Bib | $13
Heirloom quality High Chair
Acc pick: Tripp Trapp Chair
Though this product comes with a hefty price tag, it’s an iconic chair that will seat your child comfortably from babyhood & beyond, and will actually look good around your kitchen table. Designed in 1972, the Scandinavian Tripp Trapp® was created to grow with your child with adjustable seat and footrest positions. Constructed from either Beech or Oak finishes and available in a variety of colors, a design this innovative deserves a spot at the table.
Highchair and Baby Set | $269
